Overview
West Athens is similar in size to East Athens. For most people, West Athens begins as you cross over the Middle Oconee River on W. Broad Street, and it expands all the way out to the Clarke county line. This area of Athens features many well built homes often with larger lots than you will find at in town locations. West Athens is also convenient to shopping and area amenities located between Athens and Watkinsville, GA.
Area Hot Spots
Like each area of Athens, West Athens has its own version of many groceries and other local places. Many people enjoy eating dinner at DePalma’s West, lunch at Loco’s or Brett’s Casual, breakfast at Strickland’s Restaurant, and drinks at Academia or Hilltop Grille. On top of local businesses, West Athens has access to the many nationwide groceries and restaurants. Being close to the Loop, Hwy 316, and Oconee County make this area desirable to many homeowners
Schools and Neighborhoods
Because this area includes so many different neighborhoods, zoning can vary for schools. It is typical to see zoning for Timothy Elementary, Oglethorpe Elementary, along with Clarke and Coile Middle School. There are so many great neighborhoods with many of them built in the 60s, 70s, 80s. Kingswood, Skyline, Tanglewood, Woodhaven, Glenn Oaks, and Riverbottorm are often sought after neighborhoods. But like East Athens, there good condo options as well. For example, Wood Lake, Allen’s Landing, The Preserve, and the Terraces at Timothy.
