Overview
Oconee County is a neighboring county to Athens, GA. Located just southwest of Athens, Oconee County is a growing area that has become extremely popular for its schools, home values, and quality of life. Oconee County is a large county with several small towns. Most notable is the county seat, Watkinsville, GA. However, you will find other addresses in Oconee County for Bishop, Statham, and Bogart, GA. The area has seen most of its growth since 2010 with many newer construction homes.
Area Hot Spots
Oconee County and Watkinsville are just outside Athens, GA. Therefore, many Oconee residents still come to Athens for restaurants, sporting events, and live music. However, Oconee County does have many of its own destinations and restaurants. In downtown Watkinsville, Chops and Hops is very popular along with the new Classic City Eats. Fully Loaded Pizza is a popular spot located on Mars Hill, and residents are also excited for the Wire Park development coming to the Barnett Shoals area.
Schools and Neighborhoods
There are two primary zones for Oconee County Schools. First, there is of course Oconee County Middle and High School which is closer to the south side and Watkinsville area.
